This original ‘Players Navy Cut Cigarettes’ enamel advertising sign dates from the 1930s and has considerable wear / rusting in keeping with it’s age. Featuring a striking red and white design, this would look amazing in a contemporary setting.
John Player & Sons, more commonly known as ‘Players’, were a tobacco and cigarette manufacturer founded in 1877, based in Nottingham, England. They merged with other companies, including W.D. Wills, in 1901 to form ‘The Imperial Tobacco Company’ in order to compete with their US competition. ‘Players’ maintained their own brand identity and went on to make ‘Navy Cut Cigarettes’ which were their most popular product, selling 3.5 million cigarettes in 1937 alone.
