A beautifully ornate Italian octagonal side table made by Reuge, circa 1940s. The hinged lid lifts to play a musical tune known as ‘Santa Lucia’ with the winder on the underneath of the table, and the inside of the table top is built of compartments similar to a musical jewellery box.
The company founder Charles Reuge opened his first musical pocket watch shop in Sainte-Croix, Switzerland in 1865. His son Albert opened a music box factory several years later, and began incorporating Reuge Musical Movement into unusual objects such as compacts, cigarette lighters, and tables.
This elegant table would look perfect in the corner of a classically styled bedroom or dressing room.
The item has a some wear to the detailing on the sides and legs, including some small scratches / marks in keeping with it’s age- please review the photos carefully and contact us for more information prior to purchase if this is of concern to you.
