Thomas Clayton Limited Sign

This bright and bold wooden sign was originally a panel of a working narrow boat from the Thomas Clayton (Oldbury) Ltd specialist fleet. Likely dating from the 1940s-1950s, the sign features hand painted flowers, and the company name. Add a splash of colour to your walls, you know want to!

Thomas Clayton Ltd was established in 1889 and changed it’s name to Thomas Clayton (Oldbury) Ltd in 1904. The business took over the special liquid carrying business which had been earlier established by William Clayton (Thomas’ father) when the remainder of his business was incorporated into Fellows, Morton & Clayton Ltd. Thomas Clayton (Oldbury) Ltd carried petroleum, oil, and tar along the waterways using specially designed boats, however the company ceased trading in 1966.
