A collection of 4 original Massil Master bowling pins, circa 1960s. They have the Massil Master marking to the front of each pin and the British Tenpin Bowling Association marking printed to the opposite side. The pins have been well used and loved over the years and as such have substantial wear to the plastic coating, especially around the tops of the pins.
In 1928 William Ivor Massil joined Massil Sawmills, founded by his father, and the family relocated the mill from London to Welham Green, Hertfordshire. William Massil was the first person to produce tenpin bowling skittles in the United Kingdom, taking inspiration and research from the United States of America. Once the design and manufacturing process had been finalised, Massil pins tapped into an overseas market and were sold worldwide.
